Public Ceilidh to Dashing White Sergeant Scottish Dance during Pitlochry New Year 2024 Street Party

The 2024 Pitlochry New Year Street Party on Atholl Road, with the crowds keeping warm dancing The Dashing White Sergeant. This annual event on New Year’s Day is held outside Fishers Hotel in Pitlochry, with compere Eddie Rose, displays by The Vale of Atholl Pipe Band and music from Andrew Knight & the West Telferton Dance Band.

The Dashing White Sergeant is a Scottish country dance, performed to a similarly titled piece of music. The dance is in 4/4 time in the form of a reel. The dance is performed by groups of six dancers and is progressive, in that after each turn of the dance, the couple at the top finish one place further down and each of the other couples, having reached the top, take their turn as the leading couple.
