The story of the people of Thamud is mentioned multiple times in the Quran. The Thamud were the people of Prophet Salih (AS), and due to their arrogance, disobedience, and rejection of Allah’s message, they faced divine punishment.

Background of the Thamud
The Thamud came after the people of 'Ad, who were destroyed due to their disobedience. They lived in the region of Al-Hijr (present-day Mada’in Salih in Saudi Arabia). They were highly skilled in carving homes in mountains and were prosperous and powerful.

The Message of Prophet Salih (AS)
Allah sent Prophet Salih (AS) to guide them towards monotheism and righteousness. However, they were arrogant and refused to accept his message. Instead of worshiping Allah, they continued to follow their forefathers’ false beliefs.

The Miracle of the She-Camel
The people demanded a miracle from Prophet Salih (AS) to prove his prophethood. In response, Allah sent them a she-camel as a divine sign, which miraculously appeared from a mountain. They were commanded to let the camel drink water freely and not harm it.

The Disobedience and Punishment
Despite being warned, the arrogant people of Thamud killed the she-camel. Prophet Salih (AS) warned them that Allah’s punishment would come in three days. After three days, a mighty earthquake and a loud blast destroyed the entire nation.

Mentions in the Quran
The story of the Thamud is mentioned in several places in the Quran, including:

Surah Al-Hijr (15:80-84) – The people rejected the Prophet and were destroyed by a great calamity.
Surah Al-Fajr (89:9-14) – Allah describes how powerful they were but still perished due to their arrogance.

قوم ثمود کا واقعہ قرآن مجید میں کئی مقامات پر ذکر کیا گیا ہے۔ قوم ثمود حضرت صالحؑ کی قوم تھی، جو اپنی سرکشی، سرکشی اور نافرمانی کی وجہ سے اللہ کے عذاب کا شکار ہوئی۔ یہ قوم اپنی مہارت سے پہاڑوں کو تراش کر مکانات بناتی تھی اور بڑی آسودہ حال تھی، لیکن اس کے باوجود اللہ کی نافرمانی کرتی تھی۔

قوم ثمود کا پس منظر
قوم ثمود حضرت نوحؑ کے بعد حضرت ہودؑ کی قوم عاد کے بعد آئی۔ یہ لوگ جزیرہ نما عرب کے علاقے حجر (موجودہ مدائن صالح، سعودی عرب) میں آباد تھے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان کی ہدایت کے لیے حضرت صالحؑ کو نبی بنا کر بھیجا۔

حضرت صالحؑ کی دعوت
حضرت صالحؑ نے قوم کو توحید کی دعوت دی اور اللہ کی بندگی کی طرف بلایا، لیکن یہ لوگ اپنی طاقت اور مال و دولت کے گھمنڈ میں مبتلا تھے۔ انہوں نے حضرت صالحؑ کی بات ماننے سے انکار کر دیا اور نشانی کا مطالبہ کیا۔

اونٹنی کا معجزہ
قوم نے حضرت صالحؑ سے ایک معجزہ طلب کیا کہ وہ اللہ کی نشانی کے طور پر کوئی غیر معمولی چیز پیش کریں۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے حضرت صالحؑ کے ذریعے ایک عظیم اونٹنی کو ظاہر کیا، جو پہاڑ سے نمودار ہوئی۔ یہ اونٹنی اللہ کی نشانی تھی اور قوم کو حکم دیا گیا کہ وہ اس کے ساتھ نرمی اور احترام سے پیش آئیں، اسے نہ ستائیں، کیونکہ یہ ان کے لیے آزمائش تھی۔

نافرمانی اور عذاب
قوم ثمود کے سرکش لوگوں نے اس اونٹنی کو قتل کر دیا، جس پر حضرت صالحؑ نے ان کو خبردار کیا کہ تین دن بعد ان پر عذاب آ جائے گا۔ جیسے ہی تین دن مکمل ہوئے، اللہ کا عذاب آیا اور ایک زبردست چیخ اور زلزلے نے پوری قوم کو ہلاک کر دیا۔

قرآن میں قوم ثمود کا ذکر
اللہ تعالیٰ نے قرآن مجید میں مختلف مقامات پر قوم ثمود کے انجام کو بیان کیا، جیسے:

سورۃ الحجر (15:80-84) میں بیان ہے کہ انہوں نے اللہ کے پیغمبر کو جھٹلایا، تو ایک زوردار چیخ نے انہیں پکڑ لیا۔
سورۃ الفجر (89:9-14) میں ان کے انجام کا ذکر کیا گیا ہے کہ وہ بڑے مضبوط اور طاقتور تھے، لیکن جب انہوں نے سرکشی کی، تو اللہ نے ان پر عذاب نازل کر دیا۔
سورۃ الشمس (91:11-15) میں کہا گیا ہے کہ ثمود نے اپنے نبی کو جھٹلایا اور حد سے تجاوز کیا، جس کے نتیجے میں وہ تباہ ہو گئے۔

قوم ثمود کا واقعہ ہمیں یہ سکھاتا ہے کہ نافرمانی اور سرکشی اللہ کے عذاب کو دعوت دیتی ہے، جبکہ توحید اور نیکی کی راہ پر چلنے میں کامیابی ہے۔ اللہ کی نشانیوں کا انکار اور اس کی نافرمانی کرنے والے قوموں کا انجام ہمیشہ ہلاکت ہی رہا ہے۔

یہ واقعہ ہمیں دعوت دیتا ہے کہ ہم اللہ کی اطاعت کریں اور اس کے نبیوں کی تعلیمات پر عمل کریں تاکہ دنیا و آخرت میں کامیاب ہو سکیں۔
