The maximum you can save each tax year in a Lifetime ISA is £4,000. The Government will pay a 25% bonus ofup to £1,000 each tax year. You can withdraw money from a Lifetime ISA to buy your first home, or at age 60.Other withdrawals will usually mean you will incur a Government withdrawal charge This is 20% until 5th April2021 and 25% thereafter so you could get back less than you put in. To be eligible for the help to buy scheme the home you buy must be a new build from a
registered Help to Buy builder, have a purchase price of up to £600,000 in England (or
£300,000 in Wales), be the only one you own, not be sub-let or rented out after you buy it.
You will then need a 5% deposit and the government will lend you up to 20% (up to 40% in
London). You then need a mortgage of up to 75% for the rest (up to 55% in London). You
must pay back the loan after 25 years or when you sell your home - whichever comes first.
The amount you pay back depends on how much your home is worth (the market value).
YOUR HOME MAY BE REPOSSESSED IF YOU DO NOT KEEP UP PAYMENTS ON YOUR MORTGAGE.
