Helen Schucman (1909–1981) was an American clinical psychologist and research scientist best known as the scribe of A Course in Miracles (ACIM), a spiritual text she transcribed through an inner dictation process from 1965 to 1972. A professor of medical psychology at Columbia University, Schucman was initially skeptical of the voice she heard, which identified itself as Jesus Christ, but she faithfully recorded the words with the assistance of her colleague, Dr. William Thetford. Despite her pivotal role in bringing ACIM into the world, Schucman struggled with doubt and inner turmoil regarding its teachings. She never sought public recognition for her work and requested that her name not be associated with the text during her lifetime.
