Leuca, the magic Salento (Puglia) | Sabrina Merolla

Vi porto in viaggio a Leuca, nel tacco d’Italia, alla scoperta della città più a sud della Puglia, dove la straordinaria bellezza del Salento confina con un grande abbraccio Mediterraneo.
Questa città è famosa anche come Santa Maria di Leuca, nome atribuito al promontorio su cui sorgono il celebre Santuario con la Basilica e il Faro, considerato uno dei più importanti d'Italia.
Mi imbarco dal Porto di Leuca con Leuca Explorer e salpo alla volta delle grotte marine che si aprono nell’ultimo lembo della costa salentina che i latini chiamavono “de finibus terrae” (la fine della terra).
Sul lungomare, vado alla scoperta delle magnifiche “ville moresche” e delle loro “bagnarole” sul mare.
E, nella rotta di questo viaggio, vado a degustare i sapori tipici del luogo al ristorante 24 RE, un bistrò a picco sull’acqua, dove si celebra l’immensa bellezza del mare, dalla vista al gusto.

My journey discovering lower Salento takes me to Leuca, at the far end of Italy, where this Salento marvel is embraced by the Mediterranean.
It is also called Santa Maria of Leuca. This name actually belongs to the area above the promontory where you can find the famous Basilica and lighthouse, considered one of the most important in Italy.
I set sail from the port of Leuca with the Leuca Explorer team and we arrive at the incredible Grotta del Soffio.
Leuca’s worldwide fame is also tied to its liberty-style stately homes, with their own “tub” in the sea.
My route to Leuca includes an obligatory stop at 24 Re, a bistro overlooking the sea, where we can appreciate the immense beauty of the ocean, from the view to the taste.
