What is Fever? | In Hindi | बुखार क्यों होता है?

In this video of Aaj Ka Prashn, we have tried to clear up a few myths around fever. Fever (pyrexia) is an elevated temperature of the human body that is substantially beyond the normal range (37 degrees Celsius or 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit). A fever is not by itself an illness. It is usually a symptom of an underlying condition, most often an infection.

The presence of a fever is usually related to stimulation of the body's immune response. Fever can support the immune system's attempt to gain an advantage over infectious agents, such as viruses and bacteria, and it makes the body less favorable as a host for replicating viruses and bacteria, which are temperature sensitive.

If left untreated a fever will normally only last 2-4 days. Generally, you don't need to take medications for fever. However, it is important to note that this is recommended only for mild fevers and if your fever is high and prolonged, you better go see a doctor.
