This video is a comparison of a 72mm refractor and a 90mm catadioptric telescope. The imaged objects are the planets Saturn and Jupiter, there is also a video of Mars, but only using the refractor telescope. These two telescope are very different in construction as well as specifications for aperture and focal length. The Celestron C90 MAK has larger aperture, but also a mirror obstructing a part of it. That makes it almost equal to the refractor with 72mm aperture. The focal length of the C90 telescope is 1250mm, while the refractor has 420mm focal length. By using a Barlow lens, the refractor focal length becomes 1050mm, which is near the focal length of the C90 telescope. To compare the telescopes, the images are cropped in the video editor to have equal size.
The comparison is between video clips shot at two different occasions during the same month. There may be a difference in atmosphere visibility, but the image processing is also different for the two telescopes, to get the best possible result. At both evenings the video clips were shot, it was very warm and the planets were low in the sky, which means large degree of atmospheric dispersion and also air turbulence. Therefore this video should be considered a hint of the imaging capabilities for these telescopes.
