“DeWalt Saws In The War Program” is a World War II era black-and-white promotional film touting the use of the power tools to combat Axis forces. A scroll beginning at mark 00:35 explains how the United States “is creating the most efficient and finest Army and Navy personnel, equipping them with the best ships, planes, tanks, and guns of history.” Such objectives require the quick construction of training bases — leading the DeWalt company to develop new machines to meet the need. Several minutes of the film are dedicated to detailing the types of saws and their methods of operation. The design and speed of DeWalt saws quickens the process, the narrator reminds us at mark 04:38, “hour after hour, cut after cut, each as accurate as the first.” The film continues as the cutting process is painstakingly described. We see how saw blades are cared for and filed (mark 10:24) before returning to a lengthy parade of construction scenes of the barracks. DeWalt products are also used to create drill halls (mark 21:45) and to cut lumber used in the construction of the Lake Washington Floating Bridge (also known as the Lacey V. Murrow Memorial Bridge), and shipyard construction in Puget Sound. “The world will know that here was a machine that in its humble way, but in no small way, had helped in final victory,” the narrator concludes.

DeWalt (trademarked as DᴇWALT) is an American worldwide brand of power tools and hand tools for the construction, manufacturing and woodworking industries. It is a subsidiary of Stanley Black & Decker.

The original company was started in 1924 by Raymond E. DeWalt, the inventor of the radial arm saw. The company grew quickly and was reorganized and re-incorporated in 1947 as DeWalt Inc.

After buying the company in 1949, American Machine & Foundry Co., Inc. sold it to Black & Decker in 1960.
