Super Mario RPG - Ch. 16 - Toadofsky's Melody Bay Tadpole Music Puzzles

Welcome back! Before we get any further, let me preface this video by saying everything here is completely OPTIONAL. What we're doing here are three music puzzles located in Tadpole Pond. Completing these puzzles will allow you to purchase the best healing item in the game, 'Croaka Cola'.

This item restores the HP of your entire party and the FP as well. However, you're limited to carrying only three. Can't make things too easy for us, right? Anyway, they're music related puzzles, so I thought it'd be best to do a stand-alone video on them. Enjoy... or not. Like I said, it's OPTIONAL!

CHAPTER 16 - TOADOFSKY'S MELODY BAY TADPOLE MUSIC PUZZLES

Like we said, these puzzles are located in Tadpole Pond. If you go left from the entrance, there are two tadpoles here. The one straight ahead runs the first Frog Coin shop you'll encounter in the game (the second being on the second floor of the Elder's house in Seaside Town).

The tadpole on the right runs the 'Juice Bar', which requires a membership card. If you do not have a membership card, you can only purchase 'Tadpole Cola', which heals your party by 30 HP, at a price of 16 Coins. If you head right from the entrance, you'll first see a lone tadpole who gives you clues on the current puzzle you're on.

Take the path right to reach 'Melody Bay'. It is home to the composer 'Toadofsky'. The bay has lines like a musical score. Toadofsky needs you help trying to come up with three melodies he's trying to remember. For each melody you help him with, he'll give you a better membership card for the Juice Bar.

Let's give it a go!

Puzzle #1) - Frog Sage's suite no. 18
(00:40) - So, La, Mi, Re, Do, Re, Do, Re

If you speak with the tadpole outside of Melody Bay, it'll mention how it likes the Frog Sage's 'suite no. 18' and that Toadofsky's Fond of it too. If you read the poster in the Frog Sage's study, it says “Sounds. Laughter. Mirth. Revelry. Donuts. Reading. Dolphins. Relax. -A few notes on my latest tune.”

Which translates to: 'So, La, Mi, Re, Do, Re, Do, Re'. You'll know you're playing the correct note if the tadpole doesn't sink on the playback. When played correctly, you'll be rewarded with the 'Alto Card'.

If you go back to the Juice Bar, you can now purchase 'Frogleg Cola', which heals your party by 80, for 42 Coins. The price for Tadpole Cola has been reduced slightly to 14 Coins. Score!

Puzzle #2) - Moleville Blues
(02:33) - Mi, Do, So, Do, Re, La, Ti, Do

After the player saves Dyna and Mite when adventuring to Moleville, going back into the area that Croco destroyed reveals several workers. They want to sing a song, and hidden in the lyrics are the notes to the Moleville Blues,

“Diggin' deep in the "MI"nes~ "DO"n't get much sun!~ I'm covered with "SO"il~ 'till my workday is "DO"ne~ I "RE"ally hate sittin'~ It's "LA"bor I choose~ 'cause then's the "TI"me~ To "DO" them old Moleville blues!~”

Which translates to: Mi, Do, So, Do, Re, La, Ti, Do. When done correctly, you'll be rewarded with the 'Tenor Card'. You can now purchase 'Finless Cola', which heals your party by 150 HP, for 90 Coins. The cost of the Frogleg and Tadpole Colas has been reduced to 36 and 12 respectively. Nice!

Puzzle #3) Monstro Town Star Song
(04:39) - La, Ti, Do, Re, So, Do, Re, Mi

This is the last one. Unfortunately, the tadpole right outside of Melody Bay won't completely help you out this time. It will play the first five notes for you, instead of telling you exactly which ones they were. Plus, it will forget the remaining three.

The only place that has the exact answer is Monstro Town itself. Go back to the second floor of Monstromama's house and go check the star. Notice the poster right next to it, that is the music we need.

Which translates to: La, Ti, Do, Re, So, Do, Re, Mi. When done correctly, you'll be rewarded with the 'Soprano Card'. Toadofsky's song is nearly complete, but now he wants you to write the final phrase. This time you're free to come up with whatever you want. So don't worry.

When you speak to the tadpole right outside of Melody Bar, it will just say that it heard your composition and that it's pretty good. The tadpole working at the Juice Bar will be impressed by your Soprano Card status.

You can now purchase Croaka Cola, which heals your entire party fully, at a price of 200 Coins. Finless, Frogleg and Tadpole Cola have been reduced to 60, 24 and 8 Coins respectively. Can't beat that!
