Winnersville Classic 2016 Highlights

In one of the highest scoring contests in the history of the Winnersville Classic, the Valdosta Wildcats started their 2016 season with a 38-13 victory over their crosstown rivals, the Lowndes Vikings. Putting points on the board in all three facets of the game, the Wildcats quickly put to rest the idea that this year's game would be another defensive stalemate. Battling the heat, the pressure, and the uncertainty of a new team, season, and head coach, the Cats have set the bar high for the 2016 season. The Vikings, on the other hand, had their weaknesses exposed.

But with the GHSA classification realignment, these rivals are no longer region opponents. While the bragging rights were still very much so on the line, playoff births and rankings no longer are. This was just the first game of the year; there is still a lot of football to be played by both teams.

But before we move on too quickly, congratulations to the Valdosta Wildcats for their third consecutive victory in the Winnersville Classic! Coach Rodemaker, his players, and his staff are all very deserving of a lot of credit and respect. We look forward to yet another season of following the nation's most winningest program in the history of high school football.
