Brahms Lullaby: Rachel Barton Pine

In April, internationally renowned violinist Rachel Barton Pine releases a new CD, Violin Lullabies, that holds a very special meaning for her and she hopes for everyone with a child in their life. She gave us a sneak preview of her favorite song on the CD, "Brahms Lullaby" during a brief visit home in Chicago.
The song, her favorite among the 25 pieces she selected for the CD, was one her grandmother sang to her mother, her mother sang to Barton and Barton sings and plays for her baby, Sylvia.
Her violin, made in 1742, was picked by Brahms himself for his protégée, Marie Soldat. "My violin got to play with Brahms. When I play the Brahms Lullaby on it, it is just magical," she says.

Matthew Hagle, a Chicago dad, accompanies Pine on the piano.

The CD, the first of its kind, will be available as a digital download from Cedille Records April 2 and on CD April 30. 3. Hear her perform during a children's concert at Old Town School of Music, 11 a.m., May 19.
