Humans love to explore, discover and invent things. This instinctive habit of humans
has led to some great discoveries of all time and one of such experiments of ours is
crossbreeding between different animals. Do you know who or what Ligers, tigons,
jag lions, zorse, geep or killer bees are? Well, they are some of the most incredible
cross breeds on the planet. Want to know more? Let's find out.
Number 10:
Liger
Generally the people are most interested in big cats so I thought the list should begin
with a cross breed between two big cats. Liger's name is suggesting who the parents
would be. Do you want to take a guess? Take your time.
Well, ligers are a rare combination between a male lion and a female tiger. They are
usually larger and heavier than either of the parent species. The largest of these
unique hybrid cats can grow to the lengths of more than ten feet and can weigh up to
a whopping 2,000 pounds. However, there have been reports of some ligers
weighing as much as 2,200 pounds. The liger has parents in the same genus but of
different species and as it's against the natural order, they can not reproduce and
their line ends with themselves. This is the reason they are so rare.

Number 9:
Killer bees
These ferocious creatures were accidentally produced by scientists who were trying
to increase honey production by cross breeding different bee species. European
species of honeybees were introduced to South America but as the climate is pretty
hot out there, the bees did not collect honey because of the heat. The scientists then
mixed an African bee gene with the European bee and developed a hybrid. A killer
bee. Taaa Daaa, the misadventures of humans as I told you.
Everything was fine with the new hybrid bee except when they found out that the bee
has developed a colony's strong defensive instincts and they tend to immediately
attack an intruder if someone tries to come near their hive. All the bees attack
simultaneously over the intruder and the attack is excruciatingly painful and often
fatal. The killer bees have killed more than 400 people so far. The name certainly
suits them.

Number 8:
Super cows
Next on our list is a mutant breed of the Belgian super cow. The origins date back to
the 1800s when Belgian scientists and farmers decided to breed native cattle with
shorthorn cattle. Over time the breeders would select the biggest and strongest

animal of each variety and breed them together to get better muscle, milk and
protein yields.
This breeding has resulted in a mutation in the MSTN gene, this genetic myostatin
mutation has made it possible for the hybrid to have 20% more muscle yield than an
average cow. At least one mutation in the MSTN gene has been found to cause
myostatin-related muscle hypertrophy, a rare condition characterized by increased
muscle mass and strength. These cows are very muscular and looks very cool.

Number 7:
Wholphin
Well, this funny name refers to a crossbreed between a bottlenose dolphin and a
male false killer whale. Both animals are within the oceanic dolphin family under the
toothed whale suborder. Although this offspring has been reported to naturally exist
for years, only two have been caught in the past decade which suggests that they
are very rare. The two are currently being held at the Sea Life Park in Hawaii. The
breed isn’t so rare and fishermen refer to them as, ‘The Great Gray Beast’
Usually, they are infertile but a wholphin is known to give birth and the baby lived for
9 years.

Number 6:
Geep:
Want to know the most adorable and Incredible cross breed ever? Well, meet the
geep. A cross breed between a male goat and a female sheep. This very rare breed
was discovered in 2000 when an irish farmer found out that a newly born baby sheep
looked a little bit funny. He found out that it has been the result of a bizarre mating
between a goat and sheep. When the mother of the geep was on heat, there were
no other male sheep to mate. She had no one except for a male goat and the result
was an incredibly beautiful, cute and adorable breed. Baby geep had a goat’s head
and face and the body of a sheep covered in thick wool. I think this probably was the
coolest cross ever.
