Coronavirus Outbreak: Toll gates become checkpoints as China fights to control spread of coronavirus

Chinese authorities ramped up efforts on Friday to control the spread of a deadly novel coronavirus, turning a toll gate leading into the city of Wuhan into a makeshift checkpoint.

Cars were stopped, boots searched, and drivers and passengers had their body temperatures taken. Anyone found to have a high temperature was told to immediately go to hospital.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the new coronavirus an "emergency in China" after 26 people were killed and more than 800 were infected, but stopped short of declaring it of international concern.
