US Senate votes against funding bill
Senate Republicans have blocked a bill to prevent a US government shutdown.
Funding for the federal government is set to expire on Thursday.
The stop-gap measure would have suspended the debt ceiling and extended funding until December.
It needed 10 Republican Senators and all 50 Democrats to support it for it to be approved.
However, the vote failed – with 48 voting for and 50 voting against.
