ℹ️The Chapman Stick is an electrically amplified ten or twelve strings instrument developed by Emmett Chapman in the 70's. A member of the guitar family, it is played by finger tapping both hands independently on the fret board. One hand plays the bass strings and the other plays the treble strings. It is like having a bass and a guitar put together (but played like a piano and held like a saxophone). the instrument can be bi amplified, to better suit the needs of each voice.

Although several different tunings exist, one of the most common (and the one Ben uses) is called Matched Reciprocal (from the smallest string): the treble tuned in descending fourth (like a guitar without the major third), and the bass tuned in ascending fifths (the strings are up side down compared to a normal bass guitar). This is to permit a broader range of chord voicing for accompaniment.

Since Emmett Chapman developed the Chapman Stick, a range of super cool two handed tapping instruments have been produced by other manufacturers like the Warr Guitar, the Megatar, the Biaxe, the Zen Tapper, Krappy Guitars, Beartrax, the Arpejji, the Kelstone, FM Guitars and more.
🎛In this video:
Ben plays a ten strings wenge Chapman Stick with the Pasv-4 pick-up by Villex. He uses Mesa Engineering bass amplification and a Orange Rockerverb 50 mkIII for the treble. He also plays Moog Taurus 3 Bass pedal synthesizer and uses Moog MoogerFooger and custom made fx pedals. Synths sounds that Marc triggers were made with a Moog Minimoog Voyager.

Marc plays a Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 and is amplified with a Koch Twintone. He triggers the synth sounds from a Roland MIDI bass pedal.

Thierry Plays a Vaudou drum kit with Paiste cymbals.
