This is the 9th and final episode of No Budget Films' 2nd season of its Byzantine history audio epics "The Last Roman Dynasty", a sequel to the 2020 Byzantine history audio epic "The 57 Years: Byzantium in Exile". This series now centers on the last dynasty of the Byzantine Empire, the Palaiologos Dynasty beginning with its founder Michael VIII Palaiologos in 1261 and ending here in 1453 with the fall of the Byzantine Empire. The series' title refers to the Byzantine Empire as the direct continuation of the old Roman Empire except this time based in Constantinople as the "New Rome".

This episode (Episode IX) as the finale of this series focuses almost entirely on the highly climactic 1453 Ottoman Siege of Constantinople that ended the 1,100 year old Byzantine Empire. This episode begins with Constantine XI Palaiologos in 1451 now being Byzantine emperor for 2 years (since 1449 succeeding his brother John VIII), and little does Constantine know that as prophecy said, he would be the last Roman (Byzantine) emperor. Meanwhile in 1451 as well, the young Mehmed II comes to power as the Ottoman sultan and therefore makes his primary objective nothing else but the capture of Constantinople. As Mehmed II spends all his time raising a massive army including siege weapons like no other including 69 regular cannons and one massive one intended to break Constantinople's walls, Constantine XI too does all he can to defend his city, therefore attempting to unite with the Latin Church and end all their centuries old bad blood in order to gain military support from the more powerful kingdoms of Western Europe. Although it may have seemed that both Latin and Byzantine Churches have united, Constantine XI by 1453 did not get the desired Western military aid he asked for while neither his brothers the Despots of the Morea Demetrios and Thomas Palaiologos came to his aid, instead only a few Genoese, Venetian, and other Italian troops came for Byzantium, and although Constantine XI was given the offer by Mehmed II to surrender, he declined instead willing to fight to the end. Constantine XI and the Genoese general Giovanni Giustiniani turn out to successfully defend Constantinople's walls against Mehmed II's army of 80,000 including cannons, however as the days go by the results will turn out to go very differently. The rest is all history as we all know that on May 29, 1453 the Byzantine Empire had fallen as the Ottomans had taken over Constantinople.

This audio epic is a work of historical fiction which tells a true story set in the 15th century, though in the No Budget Films perspective. Keep in mind that this video contains some references that could be culturally offensive to some. It consists of mixed media including No Budget Films' Lego characters, photographs of real locations, historical illustrations, and artworks from various online artists.
