Edit2: Here's a plug for Brie Larson's new yt chan: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCN_GNYmF_jOpv8Yoh3KBILA
...tho she is not immune to detractors. One example ~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCf_5P0N5GU&t=1m51s
She is criticized for being false. I myself did not see her first post that way. So I sub'd. (I have yet to view any other vlogs she uploaded.) There is certainly no shortage of pretentious vloggers on yt. I myself actually saw her to be refreshingly sincere. Maybe that's how good an actor she is?!
Counterpoint: "All the world's a stage."

Finally, in 2019, we have a professional quality release of this phenomenal song. Brie Larson at her most stunning in sight and sound. Clips are added showing her breaking character to give us a peek at her actual personality.

Envy Adams takes on the lead vocals in Metric's 'Black Sheep'. Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Her band is The Clash At Demonhead. This movie came out almost one decade ago. Yet this version of Black Sheep, one of the best songs ever, has never been released. It did not exist until today. (This is why the title indicates this is a MASTER recording. It could only be a re-master if the master had been made available.)

...or rather, there have been plenty of efforts from fans to reconstruct this song, but every single one I have been able to find are disappointingly low quality. Halfway through, they switch from stereo to mono, as though you were timetraveling back into the 1950s. And those were the 'good' ones. So I decided to do this reconstruction myself. While I'm obviously biased, to my ear the results are on par with "professional quality".

As far as I know, this is the first time a stereo version of this full song has ever been published. I mean, I expect it exists, but for whatever reason, it's probably been kept in someone's vault.

The all-Metric version with Emily Haines' vocals is what was put on the Official Soundtrack. I'm a big fan of Metric, but there is an amazingly charming quality that Brie Larson's voice gives to the song. She gives this song a significantly warmer color palette. Squishy and sultry (contrasting with Emily's razor's edge rockin tone). Who knew that this Oscar-winning actress was such a Triple Threat?

COPYRIGHT belongs to the owners of this song and the movie. Not me.

The reason her qualification was edited out was in an effort to be humorous, and also to express the opinion that this is actually a phenomenal song which is on par with songs from the best bands in the world. If T'CAD went on tour, I'd go see them. And Metric, if you're listening, it would be absolutely phenomenal to invite Brie to perform at one of your concerts. Ideally, a bunch more times than just once. It looks like she had a lot of fun playing Envy. Even better if Brie would perform a full concert. She clearly has the talent.

I love this song, and if anyone knows the reason why it was never released, please post that story in the comments. For those who know the history of the song, it was originally given the title "Freddie", and the lyrics were somewhat different, giving a much more sexual meaning to the song. One could hazard a guess that Freddie is one of Emily's "evil exes". Heh. And we could also guess that the reason for changing the name to "Black Sheep" was because Metric wanted to avoid being sued by Freddie. Just a guess.

Edit: Back around late September, soon after this video was uploaded, kajus posted the link to the tweet (pinned below) where Edgar Wright answered this question above:

"Metric wanted their original version on the OST. Which is fair enough. So... for now at least, the Brie version is just on the film, DVD extras and YouTube..." (7:13 AM - 5 Sep 2019)

Some people tell a story that Emily wrote Black Sheep for the Scott Pilgrim movie. This is not accurate. Metric was performing this song back in 2007, and the song was finished before Metric was approached to be part of Scott Pilgrim. It just so happened that they had this song which fit perfectly. Emily has told this story herself here (from TIFF 2018):
