In Conversation – Nancy MacLean, Richard Reeves, and Gillian White On "Dream Hoarders"

The Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity at Duke University partnered with the Roosevelt Institute and the Brookings Institution’s Richard Reeves for a conference on October 26, 2017 entitled "The Hidden Rules of Race and Dream Hoarders: A Conference Exploring the Historical and Contemporary Landscape of Race, Wealth, and Health Disparities in the United States."

The conference explored the underpinnings of health and wealth disparities in the context of race, looking at issues that go beyond the current national emphasis on the trials of the white working class.

Gillian B. White, senior associate editor at "The Atlantic," engaged Reeves in a discussion of “Dream Hoarders,” highlighting the importance of centering race in discussions of wealth and mobility, specifically racial discrimination in market processes. The conversation was moderated by Nancy MacLean, William H. Chafe Professor of History and Public Policy at Duke and author of “Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right's Stealth Plan for America.”
