Nithyananda is currently facing a sexual assault case filed by Karnataka Police in 2009. The petitioner, Aarthi Rao, his own disciple, accused him of raping multiple times. The complaint says Nithyananda insisted on “seeking moksha through sexual union” with several female devotees by claiming to be incarnations of various gods. Alongside there are seven more cases against his foundation, on allegations of fraud in India and United States.
In an act of retaliation, Nithyananda Foundation members have filed 14 complaints against Aarthi Rao, all of them after charge sheet was filed against him. Also, 17 complaints were filed against whistleblower Dharmananda alias Lenin, who first came out exposing Nithyananda’s sexual crimes.

A chargesheet filed by the Bidadi police in November 2010, narrates how Nityananda 'convinced' one such devotee into having sexual relations with him. The survivor, named Amala* in the chargesheet, was a housewife and pregnant when he first decided to satisfy his 'illicit sexual desire' by using her.
She was brought to his room under the pretext of cleaning it and was asked to massage Nityananda's legs. This was when he embraced and kissed her on the lips.

What is shocking is that despite testimonies of the 'godman' forcing women into sexual activities being made public, a large number of people continue to root for him. Back when a case of sexual assault was registered against Nithyananda by a former devotee in 2010, he told the Criminal Investigation Department that he could not possibly be guilty of the crime as he was “impotent”. Impotent, by the way, is a word that is supposed to mean a man is physically unable to have penetrative sexual intercourse or experience an erection or orgasm, but instead sounds like some sort of inane measure of masculine power or “potency” based on the strength of one’s erection or explosiveness of orgasm.

Anyway, after evading medical tests for four years, he was ordered to undergo a “potency” test by a Supreme Court order in 2012, which he finally did in 2014 after two years of evasion. When he finally took the test, it was obviously and immediately revealed that he was not, in fact, “impotent” (we’ll get to the bizarre reason why this seemed obvious in just a bit).
Now, Nithyananda has amazingly claimed that the sexual intercourse which took place between him and a female devotee was in fact consensual! It’s such a huge and audacious departure from and leap in logic, but then again, perhaps that is what godmen are most famous for.
