Finished With Engines - Farewell to the St. Mary's Challenger

On October 30, 2013, it was announced that Port City Steamship Holdings planned to convert the 107 year old Steamer St. Mary's Challenger to an articulated tug/barge at Bay Shipbuilding during the 2013-2014 lay-up season. The Challenger began her final trip on November 7th with a load of cement from Charlevoix. She arrived in South Chicago late Friday the 8th, unloaded and was delayed by high wind. She finally departed the evening of Sunday the 10th and made her way to Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Early in the afternoon on Monday, November 11th, 2013, the Str. St. Mary's Challenger rang "Stop" for the final time.
