Exploring an Old Finnish Sea Fortress - Suomenlinna
I found it really interesting visiting Suomenlinna due to the fact that the military base has been taken over by a few different countries in its history.
The base was initially was called Sveaborg in 1748 when the Swedish king authorized its construction. In 1808 the Russians took over the sea fortress and it was not until 1918 that the sea fortress was taken over by the Finnish government and renamed Suomenlinna (‘Castle of Finland’).
Very interesting!!
