Pandemic Politics

We all look to government to direct the response to crises, and to lead the recovery. Crises also expose the vulnerabilities of government, be it their capacity to provide for their citizens, competence, or trustworthiness. How have different countries addressed the COVID-19 pandemic?

Political economists Margaret Levi, of Stanford University, and Tim Besley, of the London School of Economics, explore these questions on the role of government with Binyamin Appelbaum, of The New York Times.
