Dow Journalism Program | Hillsdale College

The Dow Journalism Program offers excellent opportunities for students to prepare for careers in the 21st-century media, through a mix of classroom instruction and hands-on experience with the College’s newspaper and website as well as internships and networking.

Coursework usually begins during the sophomore and junior years, starting with a two-semester introductory sequence. Electives focus on composition, editing, design, political journalism, sports writing, the history of journalism, and more.

Small classes with teachers who are professional writers are a hallmark of the program, and every semester, the department offers one-credit courses with distinguished guests, such as Andrew Ferguson of the Weekly Standard, Kimberley Strassel of the Wall Street Journal, and columnist Mark Steyn.
