Fishing Palk Bay

In the south eastern coast of India lies an 100 km long and 40km wide shallow warm sea, which sustains an unique ecosystem. In the past the Palk Bay was known as an area where traders could find bountiful natural pearls, but now due to mechanized fishing, the ecosystem has diminished. There are still people who follow traditional fishing practices, which are sustainable and have a small footprint on the fragile underwater ecosystem.
