I Visited 5 NYC Bookstores in One Day - Book Crawl Through Manhattan & Cold Spring
From London to NYC: A Book Crawl Through New York’s Best Bookstores
I recently traveled from London to New York City and decided to spend a full day doing what I love most—bookstore hopping! The experience was completely different from London’s quieter, cozy bookshop culture. NYC’s book scene felt more fast-paced, eclectic, and full of bold energy—but it was just as magical in its own way.
In this video, I visit five bookstores across Manhattan, explore the beautiful New York Public Library, and take a quick trip upstate to Cold Spring, NY for one last indie gem.
After a full day of literary exploring, here are my top 3 favorites:
1. Strand Bookstore – A true New York legend. Located near Union Square, Strand boasts “18 miles of books,” and it absolutely lives up to the hype. It is a chaotic, wonderful labyrinth of everything a book lover could dream of. It perfectly captures the soul of NYC.
2. Split Rock Books (Cold Spring, NY) – Tucked away in the charming town of Cold Spring, this indie bookstore stole my heart. It’s small but incredibly well-curated, with a welcoming atmosphere and great selections in fiction, nonfiction, and children’s books. You can feel the passion behind every shelf—definitely worth the trip outside the city.
3. Barnes & Noble – Yes, it’s a major chain, but this flagship store had a vibe all its own. Spacious and beautifully organized—it gave me a modern, commercial side of NYC’s reading culture without losing that literary charm.
Let me know which bookstore you’d love to visit—or drop your NYC faves for my next trip!
