Be Thou My Vision ☘️ / Irish melody / harp cover

Did you know this Irish melody is over 1,000 years old? It dates back to the time of St. Patrick in Ireland. The local Irish king had banned the burning of any flames or candles in observance of a pagan Druid festival. On Easter Sunday in 433, St. Patrick risked his life by lighting a huge fire on the tallest hill around: Slane Hill. Years later, an unknown composer wrote a melody called "Slane" to honor St. Patrick's heroism (bayviewbiblechurch.org: "The Story Behind Be Thou My Vision).

The lyrics are a bit trickier...does vision refer to eyesight or something seen? My best interpretation uses "vision" as a plan or direction for the future. So, to me, this song is saying: "My vision for my life is to become ever closer to you, Lord, to be filled ever more with your light, and to share that light with the world." 💗 Kirsten
