Michelle Kwan is one of the most decorated figure skaters in American and Olympic history. Kwan overcame intense adversity during her career. She broke bones, endured media scrutiny, and stuck it out through bitter rivalries, but was still able to medal in two consecutive Olympics (1998 and 2002). Unfortunately, a devastating injury took her out of contention at the 2006 games, and Kwan quickly fell out of the spotlight, though she didn't stop being active. Kwan's life since leaving the ice (at least professionally) had more to do with relationships and politics than it did competitive sports. And if you have been watching the right places, you would realize that Kwan never stopped being a competitor, albeit in a new field. You never hear about Michelle Kwan anymore. This is why.
