Troubleshoot: Water Well Pump Won't Shut Off
If you find yourself in a situation where the pump is not shutting off or the system operating pressure has dropped here are some things you will want to check:
1. If you are experiencing no water at all and the pump seems to be running, check for closed valves between the pump and pressure switch, possible a stuck closed check valve. If this is the case replace the failed valve or check valve.

2. Pressure Switch, check your settings on the pressure switch and examine for defects and wear. You may need to readjust the settings, or replace the switch. If you are in a situation where you have hard water, or sediment in the water system the pressure tube can also become clogged so check this as well.

3. It could also be an indication of a Leak In the System, you likely have a leak within the system. Check for leaks and repair. Usually this problem is also associated with lower than normal pressure within the system.
4. Low water in the well can also cause the pump to run continuously, this would usually be evident due to the system running but no water being delivered. The pump would likely be reading low amperage in this scenario. If this happens, turn off the system and wait for the well to recover then turn the system on again. If this problem persists it is recommended that you install either a motor protection device to protect the pump and motor from burning up, or to install a flow restrictor to throttle the pumps discharge to below the production of the well.

5. If you everything we just mentioned checks out and you are still experiencing low water pressure it may be a problem with the pump. Checking the amperage of the pump motor may help you to determine if the motor is drawing high amps it may be a badly worn pump a bound pump or clogged pump screen.
