We finally moved from Illinois to Florida! The Illinois exodus is real, y'all! But it didn't come without some mistakes when we budgeted for our relocation. If you're planning a move across country or even just out of state, it's important that you budget and have plenty of savings for emergencies.

#1 - Moving Truck Expenses - It doesn't matter how much you think you've decluttered. You probably still have too much stuff.

#2 - Moving Companies for Heavy Items - Our gun safe was simply too much for us to handle. This doubled our movers budget.

#3 - Storage - When moving to Florida, you'd think you could store or park your boat in your driveway or behind your home. That's unfortunately not the case in areas with homeowners' associations. Be sure to find out ahead of time so that you're not stuck paying for storage or boat or camper rent.

#4 - Florida Vehicle Registration Fees - Florida's car registration fees are astronomical! Do your homework and make sure you're paying cash for them instead of putting the charges on a credit card.

BONUS - Groceries cost different in every area of the country. We were so used to having an Aldi that we didn't realize nowhere in Northwest Florida offers Aldi stores. Supposedly, there is an Aldi being built in Navarre and a couple of places in Pensacola, but for now, we are stuck paying triple the cost at Walmart, Winn Dixie, and Publix.
