Testing Gear Got Serious — Oven, Izod & Tensile Upgrades
Testing gear update time.
In this video I’m going over the latest changes to my EDGE OF 3D materials testing setup, including the oven conversion, the Izod impact tester upgrades, the tensile tester rebuild, and a few of the new tools that have come into the shop for testing and review.
The oven has moved from “good enough shop science” into a much more controlled setup with a real PID controller, ramp/soak programming, and better temperature validation so I can track material failure under controlled heat conditions.
The Izod tester has also been updated with a sensor-based system that now gives me a calculated Joules of Energy Absorbed number. This is still not a certified ASTM lab test, and I will keep saying that until the internet runs out of comments, but it gives me a repeatable comparative number for testing printed materials against each other.
I also touch on the tensile tester rebuild, why it needed to be improved, and how all of this feeds into the bigger goal: better repeatability, better comparison data, and less guessing when it comes to real-world 3D printing materials.
Plus, I show a few new tools that have been sent in for testing and review, including compressed air dusters and the Katerk Mini.
As always, this is not lab-certified marketing fluff. This is EDGE OF 3D testing: controlled where I can, repeatable where it matters, and blunt about what the numbers do — and do not — mean.
