Mind Games | Ion Cutelaba

Hi guys now I know this is somewhat different from my previous videos. But if you're a combat sports fan stay with me. So if you follow UFC at all you would know that it was UFC fight night Auckland last weekend and one of the fights got me very interested the fight I'm talking about is Ion Cutelaba vs Henrique da Silva. But more specifically ion cutelaba so Let's take a closer look. As Ion walks into the octagon you can see he is calm and ready the camera then goes to hendrique it shows him rocking from side to side arms hanging low he doesn't look at ion avoiding eye contact. Ion doesn't take his eyes of his opponent he then walks over to hendrique and does the signature Josh Barnett throat slash it is at this point where I think Ion has already won the fight because the amount of confidence it takes to show boat like that with a straight face is sky-high now look at this seconds before the referee starts the fight the camera goes to Ion once again and show him with eyes of an assassin cool calm and collected the camera then goes to hendrique and it is visible that he is angry and tense as the fight begins Ion moves in quickly to prevent Henrique from taking the centre of the octagon in the first 5 seconds both men are moving around trying to gauge the distance Henrique then throws the first jab Ion dodges it by pushing of his front foot Ion then throws a stiff jab and a fake right straight hendrique expecting right hand brings both his hand up to cover at this moment his footing is off and it forces him to move back Ion then throws a big overhand right which makes Henrique stumble and move back Ion moves in Henrique throws a right hook that ion sees and dodges but it still slightly connects to the back of his head Ion then throws a left hook that hits hendrique on the side of the head notice how Ions hand lands rather than to take the risk of braking his hand he hits him with the side as he throws the right hook he lands with back of his hand trying to push him to the left setting him up for the oncoming train that is his left hand as the left hand lands it connects perfectly on Hendriques jaws this makes Henriques legs fall from under him but he is still in the fight as ion moves in for the ground and pound Henrique tries to pull guard Ion predicts this and tries to circle to his right notice how Henrique clamps down on Ions left hand trying to set up a triangle choke he pulls his left leg back to try and throw it over the right shoulder of Ion,Ion picks up on this and stands up as he stands up it makes Henrique rolls to his side at this point the fight is already over after the fight you can see Ion is much normal looking then before he then bows to Henrique as a show of respect all the things he did before the fight the stare down and throat slash was just him playing mind games with hendrique before the fight Ion did the taunt to hendrique which made him angry this anger then made him not see what Ion was trying to do these days in MMA and all combats sports the Psychological side has become huge before and during a fight for example Conor McGregor arguably the best user of mind games in mma today in his fight with Jose Aldo he put him away in 13 seconds Conor got into Joses head this made José aggressive and made him charge in to Conor where Conor shut him down with one left hook if you then look at McGregor vs Diaz 1 this strategy did not work just because of the simple fact that Nate does not get emotional what I'm trying to say is in sport where the outcome is predicted by physical action the mental side of things can be forgotten about if you liked this share it on your social media and as always thanks for watching.
