Musicians, Don't Give Up On Your Dream
Musicians are like painters, both are artists. Painters use brush strokes and a color palette to create wonderful art, just as musicians use sound and voice to craft beautiful works. In 2015, it feels like any young artist that wants to make music will have a hard time swimming the shark infested waters populated by so many, but that shouldn't be discouraging. It should instead, be encouraging. Your dream, your art, your voice, is that driving force behind your craft. Your vision shouldn't be to become an instant millionaire, but to touch people with your music. Most of you have this driving force, but are scared that this love of yours will take everything from you and be a sacrifice that nobody takes seriously, or respects.
Respect, in this case, begins with you. It begins with your music. Is it what touches you or moves you? If what you create feels pure and is from your soul, no negative review or poor feedback should hold you down. The sea of bands and artists out there should only encourage you to jump into the pool. Its like a giant club. You'll make friends, form bonds, help one another spread the word and make lasting memories.
I've only been in a band a few moments of my life. It might seem pointless for someone like me to say words like this. But, being around music constantly, and talking to many who are in the business, who love their work and craft, who do it to put smiles on the faces of those who hear it, they glow a bit differently. Don't give up on your dream of music, musicians young and old. Its never too late to create. Its never too late to let your voice be your most powerful tool and your instrument its most powerful ally. Create, and let music's unknown power perform its magic. Move people, move souls, but create for you.
