Za Krizen 2025 on Hvar: the Most Magical Night in Croatia

My gift to the people of Hvar.

Easily the best night of the year in Croatia for me. Thursday of Holy Week in Jelsa, staying up all night capturing all six processions of the 500-year Za Krizen (Behind the Cross) procession, inscribed as UNESCO heritage.

It is the one night of the year I stay up all night, documenting each procession as they pass through Jelsa's main square, starting at 22:00, before welcoming the Jelsa procession back at 06:30 on Good Friday, after a 22km procession of prayer and singing through the night. It is one of the most magical experiences I have had anywhere.

Video (and time stamp) of all six processions, followed by the spectacular end to the Jelsa procession. And a bonus at the end - the atmosphere on the main square on Easter Sunday. Pure joy.

I heartily recommend you spend Thursday to Monday over the Easter period on Hvar at least once in your life. See you there next year
