Amidst all the protests across the country, the NDA government at the Center has decided that the Waqf Board Amendment Bill will be introduced in the Lok Sabha on April 2. Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Welfare Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced this bill in the Lok Sabha on 8 August 2024, which was sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) after the uproar by the opposition. A total of 44 amendments were presented in the parliamentary committee, out of which about 14 amendments were accepted by the JPC led by Jagdambika Pal. The amended bill has already been approved by the Cabinet. Now it remains to be seen whether the government really wants to get this bill passed? Because if the government brings this bill in Parliament, then getting it passed is not going to be less challenging. However, in terms of numbers, the NDA parties have enough majority to get the bill passed from the Parliament. Now it remains to be seen what is the intention of the government?
