Doftana Prison - Abandoned Political Prison from 1895 | Urbex Journey in Romania

This prison was built in the late 1800's and from 1921 it was used to detain political prisoners. Many of them were communists, philosophers, terrorists and would-be revolutionaries including prime minister of Romania: Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej and first president of Romania/general secretary of Romanian Communist Party: Nicolae Ceaușescu.

Inside, there were a total of 308 cells, split into eight sections and conditions inside were notoriously harsh with little to no basic human rights and many prisoners dying inside.
