FROM CAERNARFON TO BLAENAU FFESTINIOG examines the joint 40 mile narrow gauge Festiniog and Welsh Highland Railway that stretches from Caernarfon to Blaenau Ffestiniog. This joint line comprises of the 25 mile long Welsh Highland and 14 mile long Festiniog Railway, together with the rarely filmed 1899 original route from Glan-Y-Pwll Junction to Dinas, the Festiniog's original terminus in Blaenau Festiniog. This joint line is not only the longest preserved railway and narrow gauge railway in the British Isles, but it is also the only heritage railway that crosses the BR / National Network on a flat crossing too! This video covers the diversity of motive power to be seen on the 40 mile route including the iconic Festiniog 'Single' and 'Double Fairlies' such as 'Taliesin,' 'David Lloyd George,' 'Merddin Emrys' and 1979 new built 'Earl of Merioneth,' the original George England 0-4-0ST No. 2 Prince and No. 4 Palmerston, Ex Penrhyn Quarry 2-4-0STT locomotives 'Linda' and 'Blanche,' Lynton & Barnstaple 2-6-2T 30190 / 190 Lyd, as well as the powerful WHR NG/G16 'Garratts' No. 87, 138 Millenium & 143.
