The Platters' version of "When Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" was recorded in 1958 and became their final number one hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 in 1959.
The song was originally written by Jerome Kern and Otto Harbach for the 1933 musical Roberta. It had been covered by many artists, including Nat King Cole and Eartha Kitt, before The Platters recorded it in '58 as this classic ballad.
