More baby chicks added to existing flock of chicks and ducks in brooder

The local home and farm supply finally received some Buff Orpington and Ameraucana chicks. We were wanting to have them in the flock from the start but settled for what was available.
Now that they're here, we decided to get 2 each and add them to the existing flock of one week old chicks and ducks in the brooder.
I was told that you can't add new chicks to an existing flock. True? Let's see.
