LOCAL Korean STREET FOOD Tour of Mangwon Market | Seoul, South Korea

My latest adventure in South Korea took me and my boy Sam to Seoul’s amazing Mangwon Market, where we tried as many local street foods as we could! Come along with us as we explore the market and do some serious eating along the way!

Mangwon Market is a hidden gem on the west side of Seoul. It’s located about a 5-minute walk from Mangwon Station and is extremely local! There are no tourists here, so you get an authentic feel for what Seoul is all about. This is the type of travel I love!

Upon entering, we immediately saw butchers selling fresh meat, bars, souvenir shops, and even a supermarket and clothing vendors. This area was super authentic and was very much an all-purpose market.

We started with a hot bar, which is a cheese stick wrapped with an oden fish cake. It was a thin layer of artificial cheese in the middle with spongy fish around it, but it was pretty good! I added some spicy sauce, which was like a 15 out of 10 on the spice level! It cost 1,000 won/$0.83 U.S., so it’s cheap and fast!

Next, the lady at the stall offered us a flat, grilled puffer fish pancake that’s then cut into bite-sized pieces. It was dry, salty, and chewy and went great with the gochujang sauce! It reminded Sam of octopus, but was way more edible. It’s sweet and pairs so well with that amazing sauce! It only cost 2,000 won/$1.67 U.S.

Past that, we found lots of fresh seafood, including fish, crabs, and squid. We found our next food, a type of tempura that costs 1,000 won for 8 pieces. I could see carrots, green peas, a meat that looked like pork, fish, and more.

My first piece was minced pork, which was super juicy and had a light, eggy batter. It needed a bit more spice, but was good! Next, I tried a cucumber, which was so fresh even though it was fried. It had less batter and had a lot of cucumber flavor. The fish was maybe cod and had a fish-and-chips feel. It was my favorite so far and was very filling. The next one had lots of ingredients in it, maybe green bean, radish, pork, and imitation crab. I loved the batter and it felt like there was pasta in it as well!

I took a break from the food and found a man selling multiple varieties of kimchi. Everything was super red, so I knew it was spicy! There were also vendors selling different types of spicy, fried chicken.

A woman gave me some Korean rice wine that was very tasty, and there was also a bony fish wrapped in a leaf.

I loved the diversity of this market. There were street food stalls, but also vegetable vendors, shoe vendors, grocery stores, live animal vendors, fresh seafood vendors, and so much more.

We went for some Korean pork belly next, which was tender and juicy, with an amazing explosion of fat in my mouth! The stall is in the center of the market near the intersection. You have to try this pork belly! It’s phenomenal! 500 grams costs 10,000 won, or about $9 U.S.

At the end of the market, there’s another market called the World Cup Market. There’s so much activity there and is the perfect place to people watch. It was amazing to see the fruits, vegetables, street food, and seafood all side-by-side, which is almost never the case in markets.

Chicken was next! The vendor gave me and Sam some free tteok, which had a sweet sauce. Then we dug into the Korean fried chicken, which I cannot get enough of! It’s the best fried chicken in the world!

The chicken itself was spicy, juicy, and crunchy. There was also some sweetness and sourness, and it blew my mind! I’m in love with the chicken!

What an adventure! The people were all so nice and the food was outstanding!

I hope you enjoyed coming with us to Mangwon Market! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave a comment. Also, please subscribe so you don’t miss any of my travel/food adventures!
