CTA CRRC Sifang 7000 Series Cars Performance Testing on the Pink Line - 1/05/2021

The next generation of CTA 'L' cars are seen here testing; making simulated stops along the Pink Line. This was taken January 5th. Every new rail car series has to go through a variety of tests to ensure they are safe for passenger service. This includes making sure the rail cars can handle being able to go through certain stations, curves, tunnels, 'L' structures, .etc. In this video they are running the train with sandbags inside the cars and with CTA and CRRC engineers on board to make sure the cars can withstand the stress of carrying passengers on various regular revenue service trips.

CTA's 7000 Series cars, being built by CRRC Sifang America, will replace CTA's 2600 Series cars which were built between 1981-87 and are currently the oldest in the fleet. The base order for the cars is 400 cars. If all options are picked up for 846 railcars, the 7000 Series will also replace 3200 Series cars, built 1992-94 by Morrison-Knudsen. The cars are expected to run on the Blue, Brown, and Orange Lines.
