As I pull this laptop out of the box I am greeted by the familiar design and build. This laptop certainly has a gamer aesthetic, but in no way is it overly obnoxious.

Weighing in at 5.51 Lbs and at a thickness of 0.90 inches it is not the most on the go friendly laptop, but it is definitely able to fit in your standard 15in laptop backpack.

Now concerning how long it will last off the charge the 59Wh battery should give you roughly 5-6 hours of web browsing battery life and 2 - 3 hours of design and video editing battery life.

The ports selection on the Acer Predator Helios 300 is generous, offering:

As I open the lid on the Helios 300, which is an all-aluminum top cover, I am greeted my a all-aluminum Keyboard deck, plus a FHD 15.6in 16x9 display with a refresh rate of 144Hz and 3ms response time.

This laptop can reach 310 nits of at full screen brightness and has a color gamut range of 97% sRGB - 77% Adobe RGB - 77% DCI-P3 all at an average Delta E of 1.86. So for a gaming laptop this is an impressive screen that has the capabilities you need for good color accuracy on your projects.

Moving down to the aluminum keyboard deck Acer has placed a spacious full-size keyboard including a Numpad onto this sleek design. I really like the keys and keypress on this keyboard. The material of the keys is a smooth soft-touch material that feels really nice beneath my fingers. The Keypress is excellent as well. It is slightly longer than your average thin and light laptop, but not as far as, say a mechanical keyboard. It is responsive and quiet. Good work Acer.

The trackpad is secure and quiet. One of the most important aspects when coinciding the build quality of the trackpad. I have test laptops in the past where the trackpad feels unstable and that does not yield to confidence in the build quality.

It has great touch gestures and click sensitivity. I have complimented this trackpad on last years model for being one of the best gaming laptop track pads and I still feel the same about it.

This laptop does come with a 720p webcam so you won’t miss out on those crucial virtual meetings, if the need arises.

This laptop has excellent ventilation on the Keyboard deck, behind the keyboard deck, bottom cover, and side panels, which are able to cool this laptop well during the tests coming up in just a minute.

Now that we have gone through all of the details concerning the build and usability of this laptop let’s dive into the performance specs.

The Acer Predator Helios 300 I’m reviewing comes with:

I think this is a suitable setup for this laptop. During the 4k export the component usage ramped up a little high for my taste. So I will say if you’re someone who is interested in multi-tasking with this laptop then I would consider the 32GB upgrade.

As you can see in the Component usage chart on average the RAM was being used at 81% during the 4k export and 85% during the Photoshop benchmark.

The other components handled these tests with ease, the RAM was the only one starting to edge up towards 100% usage.

The decision is yours. If you are looking for a mid-range laptop with aluminum top cover and keyboard deck, fast export times while video editing, impressive 3D modeling and motion design results, runs cool while performing tasks, and has numerous ports for whatever need you may come across then I would highly consider the Acer Predator Helios 300.
