Adam Johnson: 2013 National Book Festival

Adam Johnson appears at the 2013 Library of Congress National Book Festival.

Speaker Biography: "The single best work of fiction published in 2012," said The Wall Street Journal of Adam Johnson's Pulitzer Prize-winning "The Orphan Master's Son." Set in North Korea, the novel depicts a world of hunger and cruelty as well as camaraderie and love. Johnson is also an associate professor of creative writing at Stanford University and a fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts. His work has been published in Esquire, Harper's, The Paris Review and Best American Short Stories. When he got news of his Pulitzer win, Johnson told USA Today, "I hope, [this] will get more people to contemplate what's happening [in North Korea]. North Koreans aren't allowed to tell their own story. Others have to do it for them."
