Russian sappers continued mine clearance operations in the Lachin corridor in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh, as seen from Russian Defence Ministry footage released on Tuesday.

According to the Russian MoD, since the beginning of the peacekeeping mission, its forces have secured 29 hectares of area and more than 10 kilometres of roads, in addition of neutralising around 1,000 explosives and conducting searches in more than 100 properties.

Following more than six weeks of hostilities, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a Russian-brokered deal to end fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh on November 9.

Under the terms of the agreement, 1,960 Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the region to monitor the ceasefire.

SOT, David Avetisyan, head of high-voltage network service in Nagorno-Karabakh (Russian): "We work on 110-kilovolt high-voltage transmission lines. We work together with Russian peacekeepers and engineers. They provide our security, and it seems that everything works out."

SOT, Vitali Moroz, head of mine clearance team (Russian): "In this area, which is called Lachin corridor, the power lines were damaged during combat actions. We are clearing the area from explosive objects, which could still be active, and from left-off ammunition. We collect them into special vehicles, drive them to the range, and destroy them."
