Symbol Of Revolution In Balochistan l Dr Mahrang Baloch
Dr. Mahrang Baloch is a prominent Pakistani human rights activist and medical doctor, known for her courageous advocacy on behalf of the Baloch people in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. Born in 1993 into a politically active Baloch family, her activism was profoundly shaped by personal tragedy: at age 16, her father, Abdul Gaffar Langove, a political activist, was abducted by Pakistani security forces and later found dead in 2011, showing signs of torture. Her brother was also abducted in 2017 but was later released.
Dr. Baloch earned her MBBS degree from Bolan Medical College in Quetta . She is the central organizer of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), a human rights movement established in response to alleged state human rights abuses in Balochistan, Pakistan . The BYC was officially founded in 2020 as the Bramsh Solidarity Committee, named after Bramsh Baloch, a young girl injured during a violent incident in Turbat that resulted in her mother's death.
In December 2023, Dr. Baloch led the "March Against Baloch Genocide," a protest march from Kech district, Balochistan, to Islamabad, Pakistan, to protest against enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan . Her activism has made her a target of state repression; she has faced harassment, arrests, and assassination attempts.
In March 2025, Dr. Baloch was arrested again and is currently being held in Quetta’s Hudda District Prison. Authorities have denied her lawyer and family meaningful access, raising concerns for her safety, including fears of contaminated or harmful food. Dr. Baloch's efforts have garnered international recognition. She was named to the TIME100 Next list in 2024 and nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize . Her unwavering commitment to justice has inspired many within and beyond Balochistan.
