Where nature yields to the brush

Eilert Adelsteen Normann (1848–1918) was a Norwegian landscape painter, best known for his spectacular depictions of fjords. Trained at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts, he belongs to the romantic and naturalist landscape tradition. Based in Berlin, he achieved wide international success and played a major role in introducing Norwegian fjords to the European public. His paintings stand out for their exceptional mastery of light, depth, and contrast, giving the fjords a monumental and almost immersive presence.
