The 1963 Great Train Robbery Britain's Most Infamous Heist #history #story #facts

On August 8, 1963, the gang of 15-17 organized criminals stopped the "Up Special" Travelling Post Office train at Sears Crossing. They ass@ulted the driver, forcing him to move the train to a pre- arranged bridge. The crew took cash, 120 mail sacks containing £2,631,684 old untraceable bank notes. Despite meticulous planning, the gang hid at a nearby farm, leaving behind vast evidence. The Special Investigation Branch, found the hideout, and fingerprints allowed them to identify and arrest most of the gang within weeks. Several gang members received 30yr sentences. The "Mastermind" Bruce Reynolds remained at large for 5 years before being caught in 1968.While many were caught, only a fraction of the money was ever recovered.
