Complete Mix Swine Manure Digester

This digester has been successfully operated on the Kluthe Hog Farm for the last 13 years by Olean Energy.

Permitted for 10,000 head, on average the digester receives manure from 7,500 animals.

Digester is 24.4 m (80 feet) in diameter and has a working volume of 1,700 cubic meters (59,000 cubic feet) or 1.7 million L (440,000 gallons). Estimated organic loading rate is 2.4 kg VS per cubic meter - day.

Digester is completely mixed for one-half hour every 8 hours.

Biogas is used to generate electricity and compressed to run a diesel pickup truck and tractor. Truck uses 80% biogas/20% diesel. Tractor uses 90% biogas/10% diesel.

Area farmers are able to fertilize 283 ha (700 acres) of corn with digester effluent using a commercial dragline system.
