Woodturning a Fire Goblet

In this inaugural project, I turn a branch from a stump into a small goblet or champagne flute on a lathe bursting with a red and orange fire look. Make sure to Like and Subscribe if you enjoyed this video, and leave a comment. More videos coming soon!

The wood is from a crepe myrtle stump. The colors are all Transtint dyes dissolved in denatured alcohol. Then I added a layer of shellac to smoothen it out and warm up the tone. The top coats are a waterborne lacquer (Target Coatings EM6000), which are so much nicer to use than other lacquers or polyurethane, and make a really nice glossy finish.

The green wood was partially turned, and then dried before turning to the final shape. This prevented the goblet from cracking and warping over time as the wood equilibrates with the environment.

This project takes inspiration from some other great woodworkers like Matt Jordan, Andy Phillip, Olivier Goomis, and David Adamsen.
