The lost city of Atlantis may just be hiding in plain sight, in the middle of the Sahara Desert. At least, that's according to some fringe theories involving a phenomenon known as the Eye of the Sahara, or the Richat Structure.
First, let's look at the science. The Eye of the Sahara is a peculiar formation unlike anything else on this planet. It's a geological dome 25 miles (40.2 km) in diameter that very much resembles an eye. The sedimentary rock beneath the surface has been exposed to create a very unusual coloring in spirals around the center. It looks like an impact crater, but no evidence of an impact has ever been found. Scientists say it's nothing except a geological anomaly formed about 99 million years ago.
