Looking Back: 50 Years of Computer Science at MIT
Founded in 1963, Project MAC was MIT's first organization dedicated to computer science. Over the years, Project MAC gave birth to the AI Lab and later became the Laboratory for Computer Science (LCS). In 2003, LCS and the AI Lab merged to form CSAIL, the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
